Do You Know What This Sunday Is?
Category: Soirees and Shindigs Published: Friday, February 03, 2012 It's one of the best food days of the year. It's an excuse to throw all caution to the wind and eat as much as you want. If you haven't figured it out yet, we like to throw parties and in a couple of days, we are hosting another! Just because Valentine's Day falls on a Tuesday this year doesn't mean it shouldn't be spectacular. There are two types of people in this world: gadget people and non-gadget people. A Cabernet with notes of cherry and hickory. Wine and cheese. It's an age-old pairing, yet, is as alive and well as ever. What is it about the duo that never gets boring? Some things naturally go together: peanut butter and jelly, mashed potatoes and gravy, arm and hammer, pork and beans, you get the picture. And other things leave you scratching your head... It's Friday, Wine Club Members! The work week is over, two days of sleeping in are ahead, and some of us even have Monday off! Those of you who've visited the winery in the last 30 days have surely noticed that we have cleared the vineyard next to the winery between us and Wiens.

It's so much fun to see what our customers have enjoyed over the past year. The bite of the cold weather calls for the heartiest meals. To me, there is nothing better than starting a soup in the morning to let cook all day.

Category: All Things Wine Published: Thursday, December 01, 2011 The first 12 days of December, Ponte will be featuring special bundled collections of wine and Marketplace goods that have been carefully selected to create truly delicious and unique gifts... The holiday season is always an exciting time at the winery. The magic of the season is in the air as the decorations are seen around the winery and the Tasting Room is turned into a winter wonderland. The only thing better than a table filled with turkey, stuffing, green beans, yams and grandma's homemade cranberry sauce is the leftovers of the aforementioned meal that you get to consume for the next week. As most of you know from experience, there is a lot to do, see, smell and taste at Ponte. You probably know this particularly well if you are a Wine Club Member with us. After all the hot weather, even though it is great for the grapes, I am beyond ready for jackets, scarves and finally an end to the summer heat. Bring on the cooler weather I say. In our Tasting Room and Online Store, there are some wonderful gourmet foods available to our guests.

It's easy to make and you'll never know you're eating healthy because it tastes sinful! As a recent graduate from the Viticulture and Enology Department at the University of California, Davis, it was time for me to join the real world and partake in my first winemaking harvest. If you asked me to travel over 15 hours by plane, 7 hours by car (3 and 1/2 of which are on a dirt road) cross a river on horseback, just to see a vineyard at an altitude over 2500 meters...

The ReCork program is designed to take our used cork and recycle them into innovative products. This past weekend, I took advantage of our beautiful Southern California weather and enjoyed some pool time with my sister. We turned up the radio, poured ourselves a glass of Sangria and floated our way to a very relaxing Saturday. Nothing makes me happier than eating fresh, local, organic produce. We have so many beautiful ingredients in this area, it’s almost overwhelming!

Grilled Spring Vegetables with Balsamic Reduction
Category: Entrée Published: Wednesday, June 08, 2011 I don't understand Wine Spectator Magazine. Don't get me wrong - I love the concept. A magazine about wine and all things devoted to wine that an oenophile like me would go crazy over. The wine part I get. But the name, Wine Spectator, not so much. NO, NO, NO FOURS, I heard Grace Lee (our accountant and one of our partners) holler from her office. It was 2003 and I was on the line with Verizon, trying to get a phone number for the almost finished winery. Where in the world do you take your Ponte wine? Send us a creative or inspiring photo of yourself enjoying a bottle of Ponte wine and you could win a $50 Ponte Gift Card! In the 90's, before opening the winery, my brother and I decided to have some fun by making some garage wine. Living in the Moment... Yours, and the Wines
Category: All Things Wine Published: Thursday, February 10, 2011 A few years ago I wrote an article titled What are you saving it for? Just in time for New Year's Eve, a study has been released on the importance of chilling and pouring champagne to get the most bubbles from your bubbly.

Our Argentinean Wines Have Arrived!
Category: Claudio Ponte's Blog Published: Thursday, November 11, 2010 In the October newsletter, I wrote about special wine growing areas and contrasted Temecula with its relatively mild weather, and the Santa Rita Hills with their cold, foggy winds. The upshot is that mild weather areas can produce a wide array of grape varieties, while more extreme areas can (and often do) produce one or two special varieties, expressing a very distinctive style...
Tasting Notes for the 2010 Torrontés and 2007 Malbec
Category: All Things Wine Published: Monday, November 01, 2010 Daniel Gomez, our visiting winemaker, shares his personal tasting notes on the Special Shipment that our Wine Club Members received in November. You can read more about Daniel in the “New Face, New Friend” portion of the November Newsletter. What do vinegar, lemons and baking soda have in common? Besides being household items, they are all ingredients in effective, cheap, and non-toxic cleaning products. If you have these items in your home then you are just minutes away from green cleaning products. Certain occasions call for celebration. By celebration, I mean a nice dinner out with wine and candlelight. One such occasion is a first anniversary. The date swiftly snuck up on HOB (husband of blogger) and I and so, just days before the big day, I was researching restaurants, reading those restaurant's reviews and hounding my co-workers for recommendations...
Not For the Faint of Heart or the Weak of Stomachs
Category: Food and Drink Published: Wednesday, September 01, 2010 I consider myself an adventurous eater. I suppose it started when I was very young and I would look forward to the rare times when GOB (grandma of blogger) would make menudo, a Mexican soup traditionally served on special occasions... When I first moved away from Southern California and to the east coast, I didn't realize what a challenge it would be to find great tasting fruits and vegetables. After all, in the land of year-round sunshine, it's easy to find corn in November... I could hardly wait to get out of work on Monday. HOB (husband of blogger) was coming home after his job took him far away for far too long. A nice dinner out would have been appropriate but HOB had been dining out daily on mediocre restaurants for nearly 3 weeks; needless to say, a home cooked meal was in order... HOB's (husband of blogger) job sometimes takes him to far-away places for long periods of time. Time for take out and restaurants, right? Wrong. To me, there is something fundamentally satisfying about cooking a nice meal for myself, and eating off of real plates versus out of takeout containers...
There's Always Room For Meat and Potatoes
Category: Food and Drink Published: Thursday, August 05, 2010 It's a no-brainer for many people that daily dinner MUST include some form of meat and potato. However, during this time of year, these two supper staples nearly disappear from my table, not because I don't enjoy them, but because the summer bounty simply begs to be the star of the show: colorful heirloom tomatoes, tender zucchini, sweet corn, luscious eggplants, and a plethora of fruit are all so plentiful and delicious... Last weekend was unusually stifling, with the thermometers pushing 100 degrees and the humidity thick enough to choke a person. I was determined to spend the day outside of the A/C-less apartment. Once upon a time in a city called Pittsburgh, there lived a blogger. B (“Blogger”) loved Pittsburgh, for it offered all sorts of things she liked: festivals, lots of lovely restaurants and friendly people. Valued Wine Club Members: We want you to continuously receive exceptional treatment and service each and every time you visit us. After enjoying a delicious bottle of your favorite Ponte wine at home, what do you do with the bottle? The first time I saw zucchini blossoms at the farmers market I thought they were pretty.
Tomatoes: What are those Red Things I’ve Been Eating?
Category: Sustainability Published: Saturday, July 17, 2010 It’s true. I am amazed at how simple it is to grow big, out-of-this-world, delicious tomatoes. Sometimes the simplest meals are the most extraordinary. It was the kind of heat that makes the air stand still. They call it “The Windy City.” It’s famous for Oprah, Wrigley Field, Sears Tower, da Bears and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, among other things. A recent wedding at Ponte had us all stunned by the beauty, creativity and eco-minded elements incorporated by the bride and groom. We continue advancing our sustainability efforts at the winery and the addition of a pulper in our kitchen is helping us do just that. The opening lyrics to Billy Joel’s “New York State of Mind” always take me away to my own memories of New York City. Did you know that Ponte Winery is a drop-off location for the Inland Empire’s Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)? “We are preparing for landing, please return your seats to the upright position and stow away your tray tables,” sang the flight attendant. Our Festival of Brides was no ordinary bridal show! Come and enjoy DreamWorks Monsters vs. Aliens at our 2nd annual Family Movie Night. When I was 10 I had my first taste of a strawberry rhubarb pie. There’s something special about brunch. Wedding season is in full bloom and we are hosting a must-attend wedding event.
Wild Women of Wine Country Family 5K walk/run through the Vineyards
Category: Press Release Published: Thursday, May 27, 2010 Join us for a fun and invigorating 5K Wild Women of Wine Country family walk/run through the vineyards & the mud (optional), benefitting some of the region's most needing charities Ah, dinner out. In my house, going out to dinner is an occasion in and of itself. For two people who cook almost everything they eat, letting someone else take the reins for the evening is cause for celebration. The reason we finished the Angry Wife and left the Silver Oak is that the Angry Wife was purposely made to be easy to drink, while the latter was crafted to impress Robert Parker (the famed wine critic) and other wine “experts”. Every spring, like clockwork, there comes a time when I enter my local wine store and automatically meander towards the rosé wine section. Nothing on my calendar indicates that it’s rosé season and I don’t consciously ignore the aisles and aisles of reds and whites. Like a Pavlov reaction, once the temperature starts to rise outside and the trees begin to blossom after a long winter, I get a craving for those wonderful pink wines. Join Team Ponte to bring hope to recovering children in Southern California. As our 2nd annual race, Team Ponte members will run or walk in the America’s Finest City half marathon or 5K on August 15th 2010. This summer marks our seven-year anniversary! We want to celebrate with you, our valued Wine Club Members, by inviting you to taste some of our exclusive Library wines and enjoy huge savings on summer merchandise in the Tasting Room and Marketplace. It must have been the glorious Bun Dac Biet I’d eaten at a local Vietnamese restaurant that inspired my week’s dinner menu. This particular dish was a succulent bowl of rice noodles topped with charbroiled pork, grilled shrimp, bean sprouts, peanuts, herbs, cucumber and a tangy-spicy-sweet sauce. With those flavors still fresh in my mind, the next day I scoured my cookbooks at home, only stopping at those recipes that I had formerly been intimidated by, those full of exotic spices and ingredients I rarely purchased.

About grapes, composting, and viticulture...
Category: Claudio Ponte's Blog Published: Saturday, March 20, 2010 As many of you have read in my prior letters, we have been growing grapes in Temecula for 25 years. Initially most of the grapes were sold to wineries up north and were turned into wine sold as a fighting varietal (Wines labeled as Chardonnay, Cabernet, etc. and sold under $10 a bottle). Until 1997, our business depended on producing the most grapes at the lowest cost while still maintaining an acceptable quality.

Opening Another Bottle of Ponte Medicine, by Claudio Ponte
Category: All Things Wine Published: Friday, September 26, 2008 An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Could it be possible that that very rule may also be applied to drinking wine in moderate amounts? The Ponte Fiorella is wonderfully dry rose wine, with a subtle hint of sweetnees. Its great with light appetizers and grilled fish. Here is a great salad recipe that would be fantastic with the Ponte Fiorella. The Smokehouse Restaurant is a beautiful outdoor only restaurant that caters to the most extravagant and unobstructed views of both the vinyards and the mountains beyond them. Learn about what the bring to the table when it comes to seasonal eatting. Wine Club members will have a chance to participate in A Taste of Ponte, a brand new food and wine pairing experience.Guests at A Teste of Ponte will dine in the newly opened Reserve Room, an intimate structure that boasts an open patio and veranda overlooking Ponte's vineyards. The Fume Blanc has both crisp and complex flavors thats perfect for sipping in the spring time and makes a great pairing for most any vegetable heavy meal. The Ponte Fiorella rose wine is both dry and yet subtly sweet, which makes it a perfect pairing for a fish dish. It is neither overpowered or lost by the flavors of most fish meals. Join as at the Ponte Family Estate as we celebrate Mother's Day. We will be hosting a brunch inspired by our very own wine country. Take a look at our menu to see what is in store. The Pinot Grigio is fresh, crisp, and tastes best chilled. It goes great with dishes like chicken, fish, and light pasta. Try the Pinot Grigio to enhance a souffle's simple yet delicate flavors. Great wine does not necessarily have to cost a bundle in order to be enjoyed and served with a great meal. The Ponte Beverino Red Wine is a great example of this because it can be served either cool or at room temp and taste great with almost any food. After recently sitting down to a meal that consisted of chicken liver crostini, among other things, I feel obligated to voice my opinion about the sensationally delicious, comforting, grin-inducing dish that is chopped liver. The Ponte Petite Syrah is heavenly when paired with it.
