The 12 Days of Christmas, Ponte-Style
Category: All Things Wine Published: Thursday, December 01, 2011 The first 12 days of December, Ponte will be featuring special bundled collections of wine and Marketplace goods that have been carefully selected to create truly delicious and unique gifts... The holiday season is always an exciting time at the winery. The magic of the season is in the air as the decorations are seen around the winery and the Tasting Room is turned into a winter wonderland. As a recent graduate from the Viticulture and Enology Department at the University of California, Davis, it was time for me to join the real world and partake in my first winemaking harvest. If you asked me to travel over 15 hours by plane, 7 hours by car (3 and 1/2 of which are on a dirt road) cross a river on horseback, just to see a vineyard at an altitude over 2500 meters... In the midst of Harvest our Winemaker, Mark Schabel, approached me in the office to discuss the next blog. As a Wine Club Member, I usually have a few empty wine bottles. Ponte has a recycling program - just bring your empty Ponte wine bottle back to the winery, and they will give you $1 off your next wine purchase. This past weekend, I took advantage of our beautiful Southern California weather and enjoyed some pool time with my sister. We turned up the radio, poured ourselves a glass of Sangria and floated our way to a very relaxing Saturday. I don't understand Wine Spectator Magazine. Don't get me wrong - I love the concept. A magazine about wine and all things devoted to wine that an oenophile like me would go crazy over. The wine part I get. But the name, Wine Spectator, not so much. Where in the world do you take your Ponte wine? Send us a creative or inspiring photo of yourself enjoying a bottle of Ponte wine and you could win a $50 Ponte Gift Card! Open That Bottle Night is a holiday that all wine drinkers should know about. And I am sure that many of you are probably thinking that some households celebrate this holiday every night. (Mine would be one of them.) And although you could treat it as simple as the name implies and just ”Open the Bottle”, the creators of this truly fantastic holiday had much loftier goals.
Living in the Moment... Yours, and the Wines
Category: All Things Wine Published: Thursday, February 10, 2011 A few years ago I wrote an article titled What are you saving it for? I made the point that since our wine is ready to drink when we release it, it might as well be enjoyed now. Just in time for New Year's Eve, a study has been released on the importance of chilling and pouring champagne to get the most bubbles from your bubbly.
