Women of the VineCategory: Wine Club Tales | Permalink Published: Wednesday, June 03, 2009 Our first trip to the wineries of Temecula was in 1998. Five ladies in a minivan made the four-and-a-half-hour trip from Phoenix for a single, blissful afternoon of wine tasting, followed by shopping in Cabazon on the way home the next day. We have since returned every year - on the Saturday of Martin Luther King Weekend - accompanied by more friends on each trip. Then in 2004 we discovered Ponte. For the last five years, we have made Ponte our first winery stop. We make reservations at The Smokehouse to begin our Temecula experience with amazing food, a beautiful setting and fabulous scenery! As soon as Arizona laws allowed it, several of us became Wine Club members. Now we enjoy delicious Ponte wines all year long! ![]() We have made this friendship-deepening trip every year for twelve years, and are now into our second generation as daughters come of age and join us. Because our numbers keep growing, we fill two minivans. Next year, we'll need to add a third! There are now twenty-two women who have been on our Wine & Shopping "retreat" and every one of them plans to make the trip in 2010. So... Heads up, Smokehouse. The "Women of the Vine" will be heading your way! Kris Tualla and Nannette White
