Rx for the Holiday HostCategory: Soirees and Shindigs | Permalink Published: Monday, October 08, 2007
It's that time of year. The in-laws, the out-of-state friends and the far away siblings will make their way to your home for the holidays. While the inevitable exchanging of family photos will take place for the umpteenth time, we have two ideas that will keep you and your guests happy and entertained for hours. So send the kids upstairs with Life, Pictionary and a whole lot of junk food while you uncork some bottles of wine and dive into games of your own. The Wine Tasting Party Kit is a great way to decide which wines to serve with your holiday dinner. The kit includes cloth wine bottle covers, tasting score pads, a cheat sheet, glass markers, and a handy little book that will introduce your party to the ins and outs of wine tasting. Be sure to ask everyone to bring a bottle of wine, preferably Ponte wine. Will the favorite wine be a bold red like our Cabernet? A fruity white like our Riesling? Or a dry rose like our Fiorella? You won't know until the end of the game! For those who love game boards, Wineopoly is for you. It has all the elements of the classic Milton Bradley game with a twist. Players choose their token, not boots or Scottie dogs, but wine bottles, corks, wine glasses, cheese, grapes or a carafe. Players buy favorite wines, collect bunches of grapes and trade them in for decanters but beware of import taxes! On your journey, you may become president of a wine club, be penalized for serving bad cheese, or be sent to the Wine Cellar to age where you'll remain for 3 turns. You're guaranteed many laughs and loads of fun. Throw in a couple bottles of wine and some delicious finger foods and you can make an evening of it. Whether your guests are visiting for Thansgiving, Christmas, New Years or (gulp) all three, we hope to help make their visit memorable and as easy as possible. Cheers!
