Ponte Winery Takes Additional Steps To Consolidate Sustainability Leadership In Temecula Wine CountryCategory: Press Release | Permalink Published: Thursday, June 18, 2009 TEMECULA, CA -- With a tradition of Vineyard farming in Temecula since 1984, Ponte Winery has followed basic sustainability practices since its inception. In 2007, the company resolved to increase its sustainability efforts, incorporating a more modern, aggressive and earth-friendly approach affecting every department. From switching to soy-based printing inks to forming a "Green Team" of winery associates dedicated to advancing their mission, Ponte is quickly setting the standard for sustainability in Temecula Wine Country. ![]() Their most recent venture is partnering with the Inland Empire CSA, or Community Supported Agriculture. CSA's can be found nation-wide and are partnerships in which a farm or farms unite with a community of supporters. Supporters pledge, or purchase, a portion of the farm's harvest. Essentially, they help cover a farms yearly operating budget. In return, the farms provide regular supplies of seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables throughout the season. One of the farms contributing to the Inland Empire CSA is Sage Mountain Farms who provides The Smokehouse Restaurant with most of its organic greens. The restaurant serves as a CSA pick up location every Tuesday from 3 to 6 pm. "Teaming up with the Inland Empire CSA was a perfect fit for us as we are always seeking out new ways to grow our green movement," explains Direct Sales Manager Ragan Erickson. "We are thrilled to support their efforts because they are providing our community with an affordable and earth-friendly way to purchase organic fruits and vegetables. By supporting your local CSA you are reducing fuel emissions since the vegetables do not have to be trucked in. You are also keeping your dollar in the local economy. We've already had several of our associates sign up as CSA members and we're hoping that we can influence our guests to find a CSA in their community. And if they pick up at The Smokehouse, it's a great chance to stay for a glass of wine and appetizer!" Ponte recently launched a new section of their website that is devoted to all of their green efforts. Readers will find descriptions of everything the winery has done and will be doing to advance their sustainability efforts as well as tips on easy ways to go green in their own homes and communities.
